Thriving on Change
What does a leader do to create openness to change?
Today change is the constant. Organizations and individuals that are open to
change are the organizations that not only survive, but thrive. Part of what is
needed is a culture of personal empowerment. Another is a shift away from
thinking that focuses on what is broken and how to fix it, to what is working
and how to build on that.
There is an accepted conceptual framework for the process of leading change,
and following this framework enhances the opportunities for success. The model
provides a roadmap of key phases, as well as the dynamics required to
facilitate an effective outcome. One thing is certain. There is a natural human
resistance to change, and the most important elements in minimizing the
resistance are: communication, employee involvement, education and learning new
skills.
